Let’s face it; in the fast paced modern world, almost everyone has phases where they feel alone, miserable and depressed. The pace at which life has started to travel is probably too fast for human beings to cope with. Statistics also agree with this as the cases of suicide, mental disorders, broken families etc have significantly increased. A major problem is the fact that we believe that this is a chemical condition that can only be cured by medication. While this may be the case in some situations, mostly, it is all about how we deal with our situation, how we control ot and manage to overcome depression without the help of medication. Here are 5 ways via which you can fight your depression.
1) Meditate
Meditation is perhaps one of the most effective ways of reducing depression. Sometimes, you need time away from all the negativity of the world and reach out to your own world to find inner peace. Meditate regularly, even if you do so for half an hour a day. Early morning is the ideal time to meditate, preferably outdoors so that you get maximum exposure to the natural surroundings that you may not be exposed to otherwise.
2) Exercise
Jogging for twenty minutes daily releases certain chemicals in your brain that keep you ‘happy’ for 24 hours. Yes, happy. You see, happiness can be triggered by chemical reactions in the brain. Working out does that for you and as a result, you will find yourself happier throughout the day if you jog for a mere 20 minutes daily. For those of you who can’t manage to do this early morning, evenings are fine too. Just put on those sneakers and go out for a jog. You’ll feel the difference as soon as you start the routine.
3) Chocolate helps!
Okay so here I don’t mean something like they show you in the movies; an entire tub of ice cream or 10 bars of chocolate never help. However, consuming chocolate in moderate amounts daily has known to result in increased happiness in a person. One of the very basic properties of dark chocolate include the fact that it can very well be sued to enhance an individual’s mood and make them feel better.
4) Maintain a hobby
It is very important to keep yourself busy with something you like. Write, paint, go fishing, engage in gardening, bake cakes or knit something. Keeping yourself busy is the key to overcoming depression and fighting any negative feelings that you may have.
5) Pets can be great
Finally, studies have shown that keeping a pet can be a very effective way of fighting depression. Petting your cat, for example, can help lower your blood pressure and elevate your mood significantly leaving you generally happier. Keep a pet cat or a dog and you will find yourself generally happier and more enthusiastic about life!
